Glossary of Dyson Terms

Glossary of Dyson Terms:

All Floors or Multi Floor: This term is used to describe the ability of Dyson vacuum base models. When a model is designated “All Floors”, it not only describes the model’s ability to clean multiple floor surfaces, but also designated the vacuum as a base model. Dyson base models include standard on-board tools only; furniture tool, crevice tool, & soft duct brush. The crevice tool and dust brush on some models are provided as a combination tool. All floor models are delivered in steel gray with golden yellow highlights.

Animal: The Animal remains the most popular within each Dyson model range. Dyson models designated as Animal include added accessory(s) to assist pet owners with pet cleaning needs. New models most commonly include the mini turbine head accessory. Animal models are delivered in steel gray with contemporary purple highlights.

Asthma & Allergy at Dyson: Dyson upright vacuums meet or exceed established standards for effectively removing allergen dust from carpets. The Dyson DC23 canister is also certified compliant. The DC22 canister is presently pending certification. Dyson models were the first to be certified asthma & allergy friendly™ by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. To meet certification, stringent tests developed by ASTM & IEC must be passed and certified by the ASL & AAFA.

Ball™ Technology: Unlike conventional uprights which rely on 4 wheels, new Dyson vacuums equipped with the Ball™ technology can steer with a turn of your wrist. There is not need to push and pull back and forth to change directions, simply rotate the handle into the direction you wish to steer. – Outlet Tidbit; the ball also reduces the floor contact area to a single point. The reduction in contact points helps reduce vibration and fatigue. For instance, a normal four (4) wheeled vacuum running across a floor with grout lines could potentially send three (3) times the amount of vibrations up the vacuum handle to the user versus Dyson Ball technology. Operational vibration is hard on the vacuum and creates fatigue for the user.

Clear Bin: This is the bin located beneath the cyclone assembly. The bin acts as a receptacle where the dust, dirt, and debris are deposited. The bin may be emptied into a bag or trash bin for disposal. Simply press the release button to remove the bin from the vacuum, and pull trigger once the bin is located over your trash bin or garbage bag. No expensive bag to buy or replace.

Cyclone: When referred to as a part of the vacuum, this may also be called the cyclone head or cyclone assembly. This is where the patented Root Cyclone™ performs its magic. Depending on the Dyson model, many individual cyclone chambers make-up the entire assembly. The entire assembly generates many cyclones which work together to generate the Root Cyclones™ that are responsible for the high suction performance. The cyclone literally spins the dirt out of the air. – Outlet Tidbit; if you have ever been on an old amusement ride called the “Rotor”; you may understand first hand how this technology works. In the rotor, you stand against a wall in a round room. The room begins to spin and the floor drops from beneath you. Centrifugal force keeps your body pinned against the wall of the ride. You may slowly slide down the wall. In the case of the Dyson technology, the dirt is spun against the wall of the cyclone and then drops to the bottom of the clear bin.

HEPA Capture Rate: The HEPA filter supplied with each Dyson model is designed to capture particles as small as 0.1 microns, equivalent to a single particle of smoke.

Lifetime Filters: The pre-motor filter provided with the DC07, DC14, DC15, DC17, and DC18 Dyson Upright vacuum is washable and should never need replacement. Simply wash with clean water every 6 months and let thoroughly dry before placing back into the vacuum. Nearly all dust and debris is removed from the air with Root Cyclone™ technology. Therefore, the filters primary purpose is to remove ultra fine dust and expel clean air.

No Loss of Suction: Patented Root Cyclone™ technology removes dust and debris before it can reach the filter and clog. Unlike other vacuums, the Dyson will not lose suction.

Only Cleaner Air: Some other vacuums are not capable of retaining all of the dust and debris they capture – and may release them back into your indoor environment. Dyson cyclone technology is capable of retaining 99.9% of dust and debris from the air. Airflow vented from a Dyson vacuum has up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than the air you breathe.

Root Cyclone™: This Dyson technology spins the air within the cyclone head of the vacuum at extremely high speeds. A Dyson cyclone generates 150,000G in centrifugal forces. The result of the cyclone causes dust, dirt, and debris to be removed from the air and into the clear bin. Therefore, the airflow remains unobstructed and constant.

Telescope Reach™ / Reversible Wand: All Dyson upright vacuums are equipped with a quick release wand that allows the user clean hard to reach areas. The handle of the vacuum extends, releases, and doubles as a wand.
